While kneeling next to the Good Shepherd Window at Church of the Ascension, Cartersville on the fourth Sunday of Advent
I kneel at Jesus’ feet to pray;
The light shines through the glass.
We hear the Baptist’s cry today:
“The reign of death shall pass.”
The window by my pew displays
Our Lord, the Shepherd King,
Who comes to seek that’s lost his ways,
God’s peace and justice bring.
He bears a rod within his hand,
The judgement of the Lord.
The fire of God our sins have fanned;
His wrath will be outpoured.
A lamb across his shoulder lies —
The wayward sheep he found.
“Repent!” therefore the Baptist cries
And mercy shall redound.
So, grant us, therefore, gracious Lord,
Thy messenger to trust;
Turn Thou our hearts; incline us toward
The wisdom of the just.
